The Tornos MutliDECO 20/6b by Hydromat is a Multispindle lathe that combines the advantages of cam-operated lathes - i.e. speed, reliability and productivity - with those of CNC machines - i.e. versatility, flexibility, and precision.
The MultiDECO 20/6b features 18 axes, and is ideal for machining simple or complex parts. One or two optional C-axis cutting positions are available for additional versatility. A counter-operation spindle and back-finishing slide with 2 available tools finish parts with no secondary operations.
Tornos developed the DECO 2000 PNC (Parallel Numerical Control) concept - a series of parallel RAM chips, one for each operating axis - to speed machining operations. No ‘dump and load’ of data as with other CNC operating systems. The Tornos’ programming is done at any remote PC, allowing the operator to continue running parts while future jobs are being programmed elsewhere, readying them to be up-loaded to the lathe at a future time. This new concept was applied to the Tornos multispindle lathes in 1997 with the MultiDECO line-up.
The “b” version of the MultiDECO includes new features such as; a pendant control for dual-side operation, sliding tool zone doors, external coolant flow adjustment and a spindle temperature control system.
The Tornos’ drive motor supplies the spindles with an excess of power and exceptional torque. The Tornos multispindle’s legendary accuracy is due in part to a base made of mineral concrete, a spindle carrier located and locked by a Hirth coupling, spindles with triple roller bearings in front and double roller bearings at the rear. And most important of all is an integrated spindle cooling system for thermal stability, helping to make the Tornos the most accurate multispindle money can buy.
